Power in Weakness – Part 1

Understanding God’s Intent

Thshapely 1 300x300 - Power in Weakness - Part 1is past weekend I had an opportunity to enjoy the quietness of the morning that came as a result of being the lucky chosen one to awake at 4:45am so that I could get #1 to the softball park 1.5 hours away by 7am.  {Oh the sacrifices that are painful in the first moments, but are worth every second once you arrive in the purposeful moment!} The quiet part? Kid-less, thanks to the Mr. who stayed back with the others after his fun-filled day of softball the day before 😊. It was during this quiet after #1 was off doing her thing before game time, I pondered deeper the idea of strengths and weaknesses that had been pressing into my heart. But I had no idea I was about to discover an amazing realization about God’s power in weakness.

Do we know where we are strong? Where we are weak? Do we let our strengths overpower our weaknesses? Or vice versa? Do we pick another up where we are strong and they are weak? Do we allow others to pick us up where we are weak and they are strong?

And then what about when our strengths and weaknesses collide with God’s intent for them.

As I dwelt in this thought, I turned to the Bible to soak in the reminder of where I am weak, God is strong. And as I did I stumbled across 2 Corinthians 12:8-9 where Paul is pleading to the Lord and the Lord offers His reply.

“My gracious favor is all you need. My power works best in your weakness.” NLT

And because I enjoy referring to different translations.

“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” NIV

I’ve heard and read this verse many times before, but in this moment my heart was awaken. The sit-straight-up-in-bed awaken! The realization that I have missed the boat with my own understanding until now. Is there really a portion of God's power that is still in His reserve tank for me? And then as softly as you would lay a sleeping babe in their resting place, these words - It's not about where I am weak, He is strong. It's about knowing where I am weak and allowing Him to be strong.

Talk about an overwhelming mix of emotions! {security, reassurance, and excitement; all of course with bit a of fear ... but not for long!} Can you even begin to image what all He would be able to do through us if we allowed Him to?

So where do we start? By discovering them.
